Procrastination Station #8

Link love!!

More from Guardian’s brilliant books blog: poems about childhood are featuring this week, and in honour of National Poetry Day, there are poems about education and a piece on teaching poetry and writing. There’s also a special feature on Halloween poetry!

What does a poem “mean”?

Feeling a bit depressed about the economic situation? Find out how to create a better life while you’re broke, and how to change things through the power of positive thinking. The Positivity Blog also has a great piece on building a better day.

… I also thought that this article of advice for teenage girls was sweet, if a little sickly.

Some stuff for you to check out… this cool Beat poetry blog is my latest discovery and if you’re into that kind of thing, it’s great! You should also take a look at Shape of a Box, possibly the first ever Youtube literary magazine… and they need your submissions! Also looking for submission is Clearfield Review - a brand new, brilliant poetry magazine, edited by Utah poet and rising star William Soule (look for CR in a Featured Magazines post soon!). You should also have a go at this Halloween Costume Contest!

Speaking of Halloween… Sara Beak writes about kicking metaphorical vampire butt in times of hardship!

And after Halloween comes Christmas… and I’ve started my wishlist early! If I was a Formula 1 racing driver or the Sultan of Brunei, I’d like: a Tom Waits pop-culture pillow, Fred Perry classic limited edition Mod pins, a Rock Steady frock, this kick-ass record player, and perhaps also this house!!
(I’m definitely planning on getting some geek-candy for The Boy though!)

Speaking of The Boy, he brought this article about awesome words to my attention! I also have to thank audrey - a lovely new ONS reader! - for tipping me off about this gorgeous collection of literary jewels, and Jim for telling me about this cool writerly resource for girls in NYC.

I’m really excited about the fact that the great Swiss was so inspired by this post of mine, that he’s decided to write a poem for each of the suggestions! Here’s his phone book poem!

Finally… amazing edible lego, and hilarious spiders.
