Procrastination Station #2

Photo by BjdReams… click it, there’s an inspiring story behind the image.

What is this?

OK guys, here’s my pick of interesting stuff from the web this week…

More about the Olympics… yet another columnist speaks out for a return to medals awarded for the arts.

I’m very happy to say that Kay Ryan has been chosen as the 16th Poet Laureate of the United States. Check out this great, in-depth article on her life and career so far.

Mark Scroggins is obsessive about which notebook he uses… but he’s not the only one! (I’m rather tempted by the waterproof, write-in-the-bath-if-you-want-to notebooks myself!)

Apparently we should all get up earlier, and here’s how to do it

…though you might need to learn how to fall asleep properly first!

The Boston Globe reckons that if you’re a daydreamer, you could also be a genius.

One of my all-time favourite places, City Lights Books, recently turned 55 years old.

As I mentioned yesterday, an interview with Sharon Olds is a rare occurence.

And finally, I know a lot of people who are getting a bit hot under the collar about this, and what it says about poetry’s function in schools.

Let me know what interesting stuff you’ve found online! I want this space to be filled with the stuff YOU want to see… so get in touch already!

I like some of Sharon Olds’ poems. Have you read ‘I could not tell’? She is good at surprising the reader and that’s not as easy as it sounds! Her mind does work in an interesting way, I think.

  2. Claire Says:

Rachel — she is certainly surprising! There are some of her poems that are actually hard work to read, but that’s what I love about her. She really is uncompromising.
